In December last year myself and Simon of Simon Watson Photography had the pleasure of photographing Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel when they performed at Epic Studios , Norwich, and we were delighted when several of our photographs were chosen to illustrate the band’s 2014 tour brochure. On Saturday 28th June at the invitation of Mr Harley we spent the day at the Royal Albert Hall, tasked with capturing the events of the day, from the initial preparations, through rehearsals and on to the concert itself.
Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel performed their first two albums, The Human Menagerie and Psychomodo, in their entirety, and the band was backed by the wonderful Orchestra of the Swan from Staffordshire and their Chamber Choir, conducted by Andrew Powell.
For the encore the knowledgeable audience was treated to a surprise, witnessing a piece of music history, when the band were joined on stage by two of its original members, Jim Cregan and Stuart Elliott for a rousing performance of the all-time classic, ‘(Come up and see me) Make me smile.’ A truly unforgettable finale to an amazing day.
A great many photographs were taken, and despite the final selection being condensed somewhat, there were too many photos to upload into a single album on my Facebook live music photography page. Fifteen photos feature in this blog, but the full sets can be viewed here:

Simon and I would like to thank all of those we came into contact with on the day for the courteousness and kindness we were shown – Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, the Orchestra of The Swan and Chamber Choir, the crew, sound engineers etc, and Mo and her colleagues at the Royal Albert Hall. Everyone made to feel very much part of the day. Saturday 28th June 2014 will live long in our memories.
